I still haven’t figured it out myself, but the first time I turned one of my own guitar picks into jewelry, I posted it in a fan group of the respective band. It upset another fan so much, they claimed that the guitar pick was now ‘devalued’. Those who witnessed the exchange found it so amusing that whenever they obtained a guitar pick they wanted me to use to use for a piece, they would specifically ask me to ‘devalue’ the pick for them.

Over the years, they spent a hilarious amount of effort keeping the term alive. It actually paid off because parts of my newer customer base followed suit in using it, even without being given the backstory. So my reward for them is recognizing their commitment to the bit.
